1. At a time when the world is becoming increasingly fast-paced and accessible, how do we define true luxury today? Is it about exclusivity, time, space, privacy — or something more intangible?

Exclusivity once meant access: who could cross the threshold, and who could afford to. Today, true luxury is more elusive and more deeply felt. It lives in the quiet privilege of time, space and privacy; in the rare sensation of arriving somewhere that has been cherished long before it was ever imagined as a place of hospitality. Set on a family-owned farm just minutes from the beaches of Cacela Velha, Casas da Quinta de Cima offers a refined Algarve retreat where heritage, landscape, design and service come together with natural grace, inviting guests to slow down, settle in and feel entirely at ease. With nine rooms and two villas, scale gives way to depth. Every experience we offer belongs to this land and carries meaning before it reaches our guests. Fruit picked from trees some of us climbed as children, a breakfast shaped by the season itself. These are the heart of the stay, each one holding a small piece of who we are.
It often begins quietly: the scent of orange and lemon trees as one arrives, avocados from our own orchard on the table, the gardens breathing after rain. Guests may arrive with carefully planned days and places to see, then gradually surrender to the rhythm of the estate.
For us, that is the measure of a meaningful luxury escape: rooted, personal and exceptional.

3. In a world where exceptional comfort can be found almost anywhere, what truly makes a place unforgettable?

Comfort is the quiet foundation of any exceptional stay: fine linens, a peaceful room, an effortless sense of ease. But what lingers is a place with a character entirely its own. At Casas da Quinta de Cima, that character comes naturally from Cacela Velha, where working farmland meets the Ria Formosa Natural Park and the landscape shapes everything: what we serve, what we suggest, even the softness of the evening light.
We would rather a guest remember the exact taste of an avocado grown in our orchard, matured by the Algarvian sun, than part with the vague impression that everything was pleasant. Memory lives in details like these: a scent, a flavor, a particular silence.

Our team has the time and presence to notice what matters: a guest’s preferred coffee, a favorite corner of the garden, an extra towel waiting by the pool, or a surprise birthday cake appearing at just the right moment. This is where personalization becomes something deeper than service: an instinctive form of care, shaped by attention, discretion and the pleasure of making each guest feel genuinely known.

5. The Algarve is admired worldwide for its natural beauty, yet it faces the challenges of mass tourism. How can luxury hospitality preserve and celebrate the soul and authenticity of a destination?

Casas da Quinta de Cima is set in Cacela Velha, on the quieter eastern edge of the Algarve bordering the Ria Formosa Natural Park, where the rhythm is gentler and shaped by landscape, season and continuity. It is the Algarve our family has always known, and one we feel privileged to share with care and discretion. 6. What does “slow living” mean within the context of luxury travel, and how can a property create a space where guests reconnect with themselves, nature, and the rhythm of the place?

For us, slow living begins with the rhythm the land has always known. At Casas da Quinta de Cima, time follows a quieter order: fruit ripens in its own season, the gardens shift gently through the year, and the changing light brings a different mood to each room.

It is expressed with discretion rather than display, in the instinct to go a little further simply because the moment calls for it. For us, this is where service becomes truly luxurious: generous, intuitive, deeply human, and passed on by example, person to person.

8. How can architecture, landscape, and design create a genuine sense of belonging, rather than simply offering a beautiful environment?

A beautiful setting can be created with skill; a sense of belonging is cultivated over time. At Quinta de Cima, the villas and gardens carry the imprint of generations living and tending to the land, each adding something meaningful to what came before. We would hope they leave with the feeling of having been cared for with genuine intention.
